President
Will Skillman is President of brightSTAR Communities. Will has always strived to enjoy Monday mornings as much as Friday afternoons. This quest has taken him across the world, where he has lived and worked on three continents But no matter how far from home Will travels, he always finds himself craving his true passion – real estate.
He started as a real estate investor in 1997 and over the years has owned, renovated and managed dozens of residential and commercial properties. In 2009, at the height of the recession, Will put his passion to good use by
relocating to South Africa to build a medical clinic in a post- apartheid township. When the project in Africa was completed, Will earned an MBA with distinction from the Warwick Business School in England, focusing on Entrepreneurial Finance and Social Entrepreneurship. This led to 4 years working with CFOs, CEOs and entrepreneurs across Europe, helping them analyze their businesses and develop effective long-term growth strategies – raising funds, restructuring operations, and analyzing investment and divestment decisions.
Will returned to the U.S. in early 2015 and started Notting Hill, a real estate investment firm focused on the acquisition and renovation of residential multifamily properties. In 2019, Will found himself not greeting Monday morning with the same enthusiasm, so he pivoted to begin solving the affordable housing crisis facing this country, and brightSTAR Communities was
formed.
Will and his wife Beth have enjoyed 20 years of marriage. Their daughter Carolina studies film and media at Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida.
